Coming out of Retirement
These are my tap shoes. At least, they are the pair I was able to find after a few years of never having them on my feet. Tonight I am coming, oh so briefly, out of retirement, to dance for my dear friend Cecelia’s birthday. This is a mixed media performance–my short dance will be bookended by readings by Cecelia’s husband and another great friend. I am going to dance to Paul Simon’s “Hobo’s Blues” a nice short, instrumental with a great swing to it.
I practiced for about 20 minutes this afternoon and I really suck but I don’t think most people will know. Smiling helps; I remember. And I have to remember that this is a gift, for Cecelia, a friend I really love.
Wish me luck!
That sounds like fun, Jan. Good luck!
This post made me smile. What a lovely and loving gift for your dear friend! I hope someone takes a movie and you post a youtube for your ST friends to enjoy!
Good luck! Sounds like fun. How many years did you dance for?
Wow Jan! This is news to me. That is so awesome that you tap. And what a great party this must have been for your friend. Would have loved to be a fly on the wall. I’m sure you wowed the audience and made your friend so happy.
Good luck!
I was there and lucky to get to see Jan dance again. Of course you all know that she was wonderful! Thanks for breaking out the shoes again, Jan. Don’t make us wait so long for the next time.
I bet your friend appreciated your coming out of retirement to perform. What a wonderful friend you are!
That is so cool that you are going to dance for your friend (or now have already danced). Glad to hear it turned out well. Did you make a video you can post for us to see ? 🙂
Was it fun, Jan?
I bet it was!
Jan was awesome!! The audience erupted after her dance! I’m working on a video…
Thanks for making the event so special for me, Jan.
Love,
Cec
Very cool! And glad to hear that the guest of honor liked it!
I’m sure you were great!
