Take a Hike
We wanted to get a hike/walk in before the predicted rain in the afternoon so we went down for the lovely breakfast and got some free advice from Federica at the desk. All set!
We took a bus from across the street from the hotel to just out of town, to Pravasivo. We got off there to find the clearly marked path.
We started out with a couple of grandparents and 2 young kids but we passed them quickly. The trail is called the Pedemontana (piedmont). The first view was this:
We kept walking, mostly up, until we got to a little picnic area with tables and a bench.
And then we heard the cow bells. Ken loves cows and he really wanted to see them but they were above us walking in the woods. All of a sudden one came down the hill with 2 shepherds chasing after it. It was quite a scene but they got it to go back up–all in a day’s work, I guess.
The path kept going with lots of great views and trees and flowers.
Here’s my “dancer in the wilderness” shot:
We passed this little shrine and it made me think Of Price Thornal for a while as I walked.
so many trees, flowers, views.
After about 2 hours, we started getting beautiful views of Bormio until we finally went down into town:
We ambled through town, got some water and came back to the hotel. We were both determined not to eat lunch given the breakfast and dinner over indulgences. So we just rested and hydrated for a while. Then we had to make a pilgrimage to the Tim store–we got set up for having phone and data service for when we go to Switzerland and added 5 euros more phone time onto my phone. It was great for me because they didn’t speak English in there so I really had to use my Italian. (At the hotel they pretty much speak English to us all the time.)
It rained for a while in the late afternoon.
Dinner was great but not as out-of-this-world fantastic as the night before. We had pasta with tomato onion and bacon sauce. Then I had a simple poached salmon with a yogurt sauce and Ken had chicken with a prosecco sauce. We really love the house wines here! The red is a Nebbiolo and the white is a Lugana and the winery is Nino Negri.
We took a short walk after dinner and watched Breaking Bad.
