Museum Day
We rarely take public transportation but today we decided to do it to reach the Serralves museum which would have been over an hour walk. It’s a bit west of here and close to where the Douro river meets the Atlantic ocean. We headed out on the tourist electric tram which goes along the river. It was nice seeing the views. We got off the tram and met a really nice couple from Nova Scotia who were looking for a restaurant. Then we walked a good half hour up hill to the museum. We walked through a lovely public park called Pasteliera which was largely populated by chickens!
The museum, of contemprary art, is a beautiful white building. We saw the first of the 2 main exhibitions and were really hungry. The restaurant was great—a nice buffet of delicious food which we both really enjoyed before we returned to see the rest of the art and walk through the sculpture and botanical gardens.
These are part of 6 structures by a Korean artist, Haegue Yaang:
We took the regular bus back to town. As soon as we got home, we Facetimed with Josh and Mavis and got a glimpse of the as yet unamed, sleeping baby.
For dinner we went to the Prova wine bar. We tasted a bunch of Portuguese reds and 2 kinds of port with various snacks. The ports, one tawny and one white were incredibly raisiny and delicious.
I’m almost looking forward to the travel day (to Rome) tomorrow to rest my legs and feet!
