Napoli Style
Well, we still haven’t gone to the San Severo so we walked there and got there pretty early to find a very long line. Since it was a beautiful day, we decided to walk instead. Passing by the Piazza dei Martiri I remembered this is where Lila’s family has the shoe store in the Elena Ferrante books. I’m in the last book now. what a thrill to be reading in here, in Naples.
We headed for the “lungomare” walk along the bay in the Chiaia district. We passed a row of disigner shops. Here is what all the men will be wearing this spring:
And we sat for a while watching the beautiful bay:
We walked a bit in the park filled with dogs and young people before we headed back up to town for lunch at Trattoria del Sole. We ate our fill of the wonderful vegetable antipasto. I tried some baby octopus in tomato sauce but Ken is adamantly opposed to eating them. He ordered bucatini Amatriciana which he enjoyed. Our tab was only €23!
Everytime we checked the weather it said rain. So we rested and the weather stayed lovely. Finally we went out to the grocery store and for another nice walk in the old town. We finally found the street where they specialize in large, rustic style nativity scenes “presepe” in Italian which become whole, miniature villages.
On the way home I stopped on the corner to get a piece of “pizza scarola” which I loved. We ate that and some bread, cheese, salad and prosciutto with the best Aglianico bottle we’ve had so far.
We definitely kept our feet in the street Napoli style today!
Aglianico grapes grow in my grandmother’s town of Taurasi nearby up in the mountains. Try a Taurasi wine if you see one because they have their own DOCG. Mary’s grandmother made that scarola pizza. Enjoy tagging along.
That sounds like a great day, and I’m so glad the weather cooperated. The food all sounds yummy. Will Ken be wearing those shoes this summer? 😜
What a lively day you two had. The food and wine sound so very delicious. Glad you are keeping your feet in the street.
