Rain, Rain Go Away
I had made an online reservation to take a Pilates reformer class. The studio was about a 15-20 minute walk from our place and looked fine. They wrote me back and were very nice saying they don’t usually take people who aren’t registered at their studio but they would make an exception and I could come at 10:45, Monday morning. All set. Except, when we woke up Monday morning it was raining hard and very windy.
In the end I really had to twist Ken’s arm to come. Best husband in the world prize goes to him this year! It took us longer to walk there because of negotiating the puddles, my nearly worthless umbrella, which blew up countless times, and other peoples umbrellas. We made it to the studio on via Gesú in time. Soaking wet. Luckily I had my Pilates/yoga pants under my jeans and they were dry.
The class was great. 5 people on reformers. Most of the exercises I knew well enough to do without understanding the Italian and the teacher was great about helping me out. I felt that wonderful Pilates thrill when we were done. It’s my drug of choice!
Somehow we made it home—now raining even harder and he puddles deeper. I could wring the water out of my socks, that’s how wet they were. I put our shoes and my dripping purse in the oven on very low with the door open and hung everything else to dry.
We stayed in all the rest of the day until the rain stopped at around 6:00 and we walked to a different, nicer grocery store, Elite, on via Cavour. Got some fresh tortellini for dinner and a bunch of cookies (we ate all of them) from the bakery. The bottle of Barbaresco we got for €7.50 turned out to be really nice!
Yeah! Jan! A dedicated Pilates enthusiast. Love reading about all of your adventures.
Sue would be proud of you! And kudos to Kenny!
Increment weather “take that!”. This is the real beauty of slow travel. Great on you Jan and Ken is wonderful!
I am always so impressed with your dedication to Pilates while in Italy! Brava! One of the wonderful things about slow travel is a rain day doesn’t wreck the trip.
Isn’t it great that Pilates is international?!
We used to try to swim in Venice, but never managed it. I bet Pilates exists everywhere now. What a great idea! With the class and all the wet walking you earned those cookies.
