The Best Pizza of my Life
Full day of Napoli.
We actually got out fairly early and walked down to the bay. There is so much stimulation here. The energy is constantly buzzing. I am reminded of Brooklyn as a child going places with my grandmother that were crowded, full of smells, and rushing people. For here, add cars, vespas, motor cycles and excitement. It’s dark here even though the sun is out the people mostly wear black and dark colors. The buildings are dark gray. It looks like a movie–a movie of Naples!
On the way to the port we stopped at piazza Peblecito–a huge piazza. We watched little soccer games and a photo shoot for a bride in a see-through dress.
The shore was less crowded than the town. these sun bathers caught my eye—one guy all dressed up and the others half naked:
We had a great interaction in an “Expert” store buying Ken an electric hair cutter. Of course the salsesman wanted to know our feelings about trump; we all shook our heads in a disgruntled way. He shook our hands when we left.
The Pignasecca area was our next destination. The street market was bustling. We stopped and had some great fried seafood in a paper cone:
Came home to rest our feet for a while. We have this landmark to know our street:
Late afternoon we went into the area behind Piazza Dante. Where do all these people come from? We bought some nice soap from a cool little shop and listened to this street group:
Pizzaria da Atillio was tops on my list. I had seen this chef on two pizza shows and I know he is serious. The crust is not made from yeast but fermented, like sour dough bread, and it is a revelation! The pizza was so excellent. I just kept saying “wow” while I ate. I had the “ortolana” with some veggies and Ken had the standard Margherita. I had 2 glasses of delicous Falanghina and Ken a big beer. Pizza mind blown!
So stuffed but we stopped in a little pastry place on the way home and got some dessert. What fools! But happy fools!
What a happy report from you and Ken, Jan! You’re not going to forget this day! And you are not in the USA, are you?! Lots of love from all your Rooter pals!

Oh, I’m so glad you like that crazy city. It makes you wish you’d gone there sooner, eh?
Keep walking, discovering and eating!
Reads like a novel! You go Jan!
It all sounds so amazing. And, yes, even from your photos it looks like the set of an Italian movie! Your pizza, wow, and you were drinking one of my favorite wines, Falanghina (which I happened to have last evening but unfortunately not accompanied by a delicious pizza from Naples).
Loving your posts!
Your posts are whetting my appetite to go back to Napoli. It is such a vibrant city. I had my birthday dinner at da Attiilio 2 years ago. Fabulous pizza!
What a great day, Naples looks and sounds amazing!
There’s nothing quite like southern Italy!
What a great day! The pizza we had in Naples still stands out in my pizza memory book. It was incredible. And yes people everywhere!
