Last Day Trip
Such a gorgeous, warm, Spring day!
We got the train at 10:00 for the 45 minute ride to Conegliano. North of Treviso, it is known for Prosecco, and it’s a new place for us. We walked the town streets a bit and then headed up to the easy to follow trail for the castle.
At the top there are great views, a parking lot for the destination restaurant, and old water well and a garden space. There’s also a small museum, but we didn’t go inside.
After resting on a bench for a while, we headed back down to the town. We walked by the frescoed duomo and back to the central piazza which was having a “festival” for prosecco. Perfect! We got 2 delicious sandwiches, mine was ham, soft cheese and freshly grated horse radish called cren. We tasted a few different Proseccos. My favorite was the Cartizze, which tasted more like champagne (very dry but floral) and gets its name from a small zone nearby.
We walked back to the train station where the train to Venice was just pulling in so we hopped on. I still like to sit on the left side coming into Venice and take in the view of Murano and the city.
Coming home from the station we stopped at the Coop to do some dinner shopping. You can already see rowing groups walking together around town getting ready for tomorrow’s Vogalonga.
We took another walk before dinner to the beautiful Campo Giovanni e Paolo. We stood and stared at the facade of the hospital. People have parked their boats in the corner.
Walking back, we bought some little glass jewelry gifts, some lillies and some desserts. I ran them up to the apartment while Ken waited in Gesuiti so we could go for aperitivi. We sat with our Negroni and Spritz, at the “secret bar” and enjoyed the evening air.
Random laundry shot at Gesuiti:
Dinner was pasta, sausage and the really great zucchini from the vegetable pick up boat.
All in all, a great day!
Love the clotheslines!
