The Days Dwindle Down
Monday, calmer here; a lot of the weekenders have gone. The city is much more manageable for us. And it was another beautiful day. The temperatures are warming a bit each day, now high 70’s for the highs.
We headed over to Giudecca, to the Tre Oci (3 Eyes in Venetian) museum for a photography show. The artist was Fulvio Roiter, reknown Venetian photographer who died in 2016. Mostly black and white, the photographs were taken in many parts of the world and really showed the beauty he found wherever he was. But, especially Venice. We both really enjoyed it.
We came back on the vap and got off at the hospital stop. What are all of these demijohns doing on the fondamenta?
Both feeling a little tired, we stopped for a quick spritz and tramezzini at a little bar near there on Calle Gallina. First I ordered water only to hear Kenny say “I’ll have a spritz” and that, for some reason, really made me smile. All I could say was “due”!
The walk home from there was easy and we had a nice little rest time.
We went out in the afternoon to pick up some gifts and I want to take photos of our neighborhood. (After the show I felt like never taking another but I know mine are just snap shots…memories) Anyway here are the little snippets of our hood.
We had a nice walk over the Rialto to meet Nan for dinner at Estro. First we went next door to a little wine bar with a small terrace on the canal where we sat for a while.
Dinner was just to my liking. Creative and delicious food paired with a fabulous wine chosen by Nan. I started with a “Guazzetto” a brothy stew, of fish called gallinella with saffron and lentils. So yummy! And next I had a raviolo stuffed with veal and cheesey becamel. To die for. Ken had lamb with asparagus and greens. We drank a 2016 Brouilly, Beaujolais, heresy to drink French wine here but Nan was the boss. We all shared a nice layered chocolate, yogurt mousse thing. And some beautiful dessert wine. A really great dinner!
Walking home was luxurious. Even the Rialto bridge was nearly empty. I could scamper over and down as fast as I wanted but we did pause at the top to look out over the city we love so much.
Is that the bar you see to the left of the bridge just before Estro, as you’d be walking from Sebastiano’s apartment? It took us several tries to figure out where the entrance actually was!
Sounds like a perfect day.
If you have your back towards Tonolo, it is the next place on the right after Estro.
You certainly are winding down gracefully. Live all your photos and your food!
