Moving On
Sunday morning in Alba…this is where we came in. The vendors in white tents were lining the Piazza San Paolo and via Italia. We got all packed up and went to Caffè Italia for a last coffee in Alba. I bought some hazlenuts and Ken 3 small salamis and we took off.
Brescia is north and east of here and it took us about 2.5 hours.
The hotel is a bit snooty and old fashioned but it on beautiful grounds in the midst of an urban area. And it has free parking.
We got all checked in and took off for a walk and landed smack dab in the middle of a huge protest march including young and old, for the environment. We watched for a while and then kept walking around Brescia.
We stopped at the Piazza Paolo VI (the pope was from Brescia) which used to be called Piazza Duomo. The old round, brick Roman cathedral sits right beside a huge, more modern and typical one.
Ken got some gelato and we made our way back to the hotel for a short rest before meeting our dear friend Massimo at the train station. We walked with him to a place his freind suggested for us “La Prosciuttoeria” in Piazza Loggia. I had a glass of Franciacorta (from right here in Lombardia) and we all shared the glorious meat, cheese and crostini platters.
It was not too cold to sit outside and Massimo remarked that we were certainly the only tourist around. After a great visit, catching up with Massimo, we said goodbye and good night.
Brescia has one of our favorite museums in Italy…the Museo della Citta – Santa Giulia.
Love seeing that beautiful face of Massimo! I miss him.
Lovely day – thanks for letting me shadow you. As usual photos are wonderful, and food sounds and looksdelicious.
BztW – we have never been to Brescia so I was super pleased to see it through your eyes.
