Giving Thanks in Spoleto
We were ready to get out and explore Spoleto. First we walked just a couple of blocks downhill to Piazza Garibaldi where there is a nice bakery. Got some coffee and bread and then started off uphill towards a shop I had seen online with products from Norcia. I was taking snap shots all the way up, but I am not really sure of where they’re from.
We found the Norcia shop and got some salami tartufo and a nice pecorino, but he really didn’t have much. We continued our exploring into the lively Piazza Mercato and found a gastronomia with prepared foods. Yes! Thanksgiving dinner! So, we bought two chicken quarters, some cooked veggies and some roasted potatoes. There was a wine shop just across the street where I went in and spoke with the woman there. I really wanted a Sagrantino, a big red from this area, and she steered me to one from Cantina Fratelli Pardi which turned out to be pretty good but not quite the standard I have in my memory. We’ll have to try another one.
Laden with all of this food stuff, we decided to take the “travelator” back home. It’s like what they have in the airports, a moving walkway but at an angle—up or, in our case, down. Finding it was a little tricky but I asked someone and she helped. We were back home in minutes, and just in time because a hard rain fell the whole afternoon.
I emailed the owner about the heat and he sent someone over to fix it. Much, much better! We did some laundry and relaxed for a good while.
When the rain stopped we went back down to Piazza Garibaldi to pick up some desserts for our Festa di Ringraziamento and do a little walk.
Our dinner was fine; we felt thankful for so many things, especially each other. I thought it was so appropriate that our food came in this bag:
Spectacular photos! Love the one of you at the sink. Glad you got your heat working. Travelator sounds wonderful, and the shopping bag is delightful. Hope it was reusable.
