Typically Wonderful Day
Donna, Andy and I set out early for Murano, where Donna knew about a special event, associated with the Biennale, called Glasstress at Fondazione Berengo Art Space, on Murano. Ken stayed home nursing a bit of a cold. We took the vpaoretto over and it was pretty crowded, but I was happy to be out in the lagoon.
In this show, works are by artists who don’t usually work in glass. With Donna’s insights and commentary it proved to be a really fine experience.
Donna tells us that Ai Wei Wei is a provocative Chinese artist–you can see why, below.
Our favorite works of the show were two protraits by photographer Vik Muniz, one of the curators. We hung out in front of this one for quite a while.
We did a some enjoyable shopping and took the boat back home to pick up Ken for a simple lunch of tramazzini and a spritz at Algiubagio befor Andy came back upstairs to pack.
There is a new, temporary, controversial, pontoon bridge connecting Fondament Nove to island of San Michele in celebration of Day of the Dead. This hasn’t been done since 1950 and Venetians seem quite disconcerted about the expense at this time. Nevertheless, we walked over. How could we not? In a less than 10 minute walk, we were on the other side in the large, historic cemetary.
We all, including Elisa, walked Andy to his boat to the airport and said our goodbyes.
Donna, Ken and I made some pasta and salad for dinner, and coupled it with some wonderful conversation.
I hope they both enjoyed this week as much as we enjoyed having them here.
I love this leisure slow travel pace iof your days in Venuce. Truly a gift of time.
Wow, very interesting to see that Igor Stravinsky is buried on San Michele island! Great choice for internment! Guaranteed to Requiem in Pacem Aeternum.
Photos are fabulous! The pontoon bridge sounds like a memorable magical experience. Such great times you have. Thank you so much for sharing.
