Unexpectedly Awesome
Again our goal for the day was to see the Hillary emails exhibit. So we took a leisurely walk to Strada Nuova, stopping for coffee at Puppa on the way. And…it was still closed. We got a few things to eat for Sunday at the Despar and then went to the Palazzo Mora for their extensive (three floors worth) Biennale show.
Just walking into those rooms is uplifting. Even though the art may not be as moving or generally excellent as some, the feeling of being in the prescence of the expression of fresh artistic thought is enough to make me glad to be there and fully open to enjoying it.
Here are a couple of the many photos I took there:
Vino Vero, the hip wine bar in Cannaregio was where we were meeting Nan. We each had one fabulous cicchetto and a glass of wine and walked on to lunch.
But first we had to try the Hillary again and, thanks to Nan, we just pranced (snuck) up the back stairs. Amazing! The incredible exhibit, by Kenneth Goldsmith, was just just just…mind blowing!
Quote from their website:
The almost 60,000 pages of documentation are printed in double copy and are on display. These documents are exhibited inside an environmental installation which converts in a lo-fi format some of the furnishings of the Oval Office in the White House. The pile of papers is rather unimpressive, rebutting Trump’s efforts to make them monumental. In this way, Goldsmith creates an anti-monument to the folly of Trump’s heinous smear campaign against Clinton. In an ambience somewhere between a library, a theatre stage, and an embassy, the language of digital bureaucracy is transformed by Goldsmith into a work of literature.
Nan had told us about this place, Orient Experience, where they have Indian/Afghan food. We ate so well—falaffel and stuffed cabbage for apps and then we each chose a type of rice and a main course. I had saffron rice, rich with a lovely cooked cardomon pod on top and curry chicken. Ken had a rice with raisins and a lamb stew. It hit the spot!
Then, also very nearby, is the Arzana, a rowing museum of sorts which Nan helps administer. (www.arzana.com) The visit made the perfect dessert.
Finally, we said goodbye to our awesome amica Veneziana (Nan) and headed back home.
Walking a back way, I looked down the street to see this.
Can you imagine, a few hundred years ago, seeing this every day. No wonder that faith had such a strong hold on the people.
We had soup and salad for dinner, still really full from lunch.
What an amazingly rich day! And we never even left Cannaregio.
