A Day in the Life of the Hardworking Traveler
I woke up early and got this sunrise treat:
But, see all those clouds? It turned into a gray day portending rain which finally started late at night.
For our errand we had to go to the WindTre (mobile phone company) and extend my Italian SIM card. The person in the shop did not speak English and I had fun being forced to solely use my Italian.
From there we went to a collateral exhibit in the Misircordia space, but it was only open for previews until the 23rd, the official opening of the Biennale.
We continued walking in Cannaregio. We smiled at this kitschy window:
From the top of the Guglie bridge, I saw this pink and purple boat:
Here’s another shot: Your typical Cannaregio dead end:
We had a date with Larry and Amy for lunch at Ai Promessi Sposi and since we were a little early we had a nice “sit” it Campo SS Apostoli. Watching the interactions of the pigeons, sparrows, and seagulls was good entertainment.
Lunch was terrific! We had a nice quiet table so we could talk easily and the food and wines by the glass (they have a big selection) were perfect. I ate the mixed fried seafood and vegetables with so many different little fish and Ken had smoked ribs–like barbeque without the sauce.
Came home and took a nap before we decided to head to Campo San Lorenzo to see the exhibits there. The deconsecrated church is now home to OceanSpace, a Venetian nonprofit. The installations were nothing great, but we enjoyed them and another very small strange one, Chaos and Harmony, a few doors away.
We walked back through Campo Giovanni e Paolo and took this quick shot of Colleoni for my uncle Leonard who has great memories of Venice too:
We also stopped in at the bakery on Calle de la Testa for some bread and treats.
By the time we got home, I was too lazy to cook, so we just ate bread and cheese and leftover vegetables. Another day well spent.
Sounds lovely! Glad you had the opportunity to work on your Italian. I would be up the creek if I had to rely on my Italian in dealing with my phone… food, maybe – phone, I don’t think so. Enjoy!! I’m waiting for you to have pasta at Pupa.
Living vicariously through your wonderful travels.
Ended up here in my usual roundabout way. And then, followed your trip backwards from today’s post back to the beginning. Your slow travel adventures have inspired me to do a slow travel month in the Bay area….so, grazie. I’ll continue to follow your travels. With pleasure. And envy.
