Home again
Our train from Bologna to Venice was not until noon so we took our time in the morning, taking in that spectacular view of Bologna from the balcony. Wheeling our suitcases through the streets, we stopped for some coffee and grabbed some small sandwiches to take on the train. We passed this building which looked very official, flying the Italian, EU and the Pace/peace flag.
The Bologna Centrale station is really big and we had to find binario 17, way down two escalators. The actual trip was uneventful. I love the moment of crossing the Po into the Veneto.
We hopped on the 5.2 vaporetto and soon we saw Elisa waving to us from the Fondamenta Nove. I was so very happy to see her (of course, I cried) looking as beautiful as ever. She helped us with our bags and stayed and talked for an hour more, leaving us with gifts.
The Coop Supermarket was our next stop and Elisa gave us a carrello to use like all the locals.
Next, we went next door to see Marcia and David and Shannon, old Slow Travel friends. We all walked to the We Crociferi bar, now called Combo. With our wine and spritzes, we talked and talked. I wish I had gotten a shot of Shannon but tomorrow is another day. Here’s Marcia and David:
Ken and I came home and ate the wonderful soup, fruit and Easter cake Elisa had left.
It really feels like a homecoming for us. Our hearts are full.
Every time I’m there, Venice seems a long breath of home removed, as if afloat, away from this world.
What a fun post! So wonderful that Venice is like coming home. Great slowtravel reunion! I love that you all are neighbors.
Wonderful that you can be in Venice!
What a wonderful view to see each day. I recall always giving a huge satisfied sigh when I stepped out of the train station. It does indeed feel like home.
I am looking forward to your adventures in Venice. <3
What a wonderful homecoming!
I am there with you both. It is so very beautiful. I am now trying to plan a trip to Italy. I just can’t stand looking and not experiencing in the real: the food and beauty. I love you both and I hope you have your usual exquisite time in Venezia. Until soon, Josie
