Last Day in Rome
We bundled up in our de rigueur black puffy coats and walked over to the Capitoline Museum. Passing the Trevi we took a moment to throw our coins into the fountain to assure a return trip.
Coming around the corner to see the Vittorio Emanuele is still a thrill:
We went around to the left to look at the forum a bit on the way up the back stairs.
There was a bit of a line but luckily the entrance is right beside the civic court, where people get married, and it was a festive scene. The bride , likely in her 60’s, who emerged to a line up of friends with white satin pom poms shaking overhead, wore elegant off white pants and a white fur(?) stole! The whole wedding party was dressed to the nines and it was a great little diversion for us to watch while waiting.
The museum was chock full of art works and archeological finds. I mostly just let it all wash over me. My favorite part was a central hall with some of the most recognizable works:
I also loved this little guy in some lovely light:
We finally left, walking down the main stairs and saw that spring has really arrived!
Came home to do our packing and relaxing.
I made pasta with Romanesco cauliflower and pancetta for dinner and we drank some beer the landlord had left for us in the fridge. It is beyond my ability to comprehend that we have spent 10 days here. It seems like a blink and it seems like forever. Aaaah Roma!
Beautiful, descriptive writing as always. Grazie!
I can’t believe it’s 10 days!! Onward.
Love your pictures and so happy you are having a great time. Keep ’em coming.
Wonderful words and photos. Thank you.
