Loving this–being, here, now.
Rain was predicted again so we got out at a reasonable hour and headed into San Marco to the beautiful Palazzo Bembo, on the Grand Canal, home to a large collateral exhibit. This first room is radiant with Tanya Chatmon’s large portraits of young African-Americans embellished with gold leaf and paint. I loved these works.
Soon we found a wall full of bunnies and had to grab a snapshot for Wendy. I forgot to record the artist’s name but he says he paints a rabbit every morning as a meditative warm up to his other work.
Ken was really taken with this “Paradise” portrait in a room full of work by Kahdi Turner:
And I shot this painting with my darling cupcake lover, Kathryn, in mind:
We walked into an interesting video from Cyprus and there were Larry and Amy sitting right in front of us. We had a quick visit and moved on. But only after Amy explained the video was based on a Greek myth.
There was so much to take in that we didn’t finish the upper floor. Got a free tote bag on the way out, which was perfect for the pastries and wine we bought on the way home.
We had an easy lunch out of the refrigerator–I’m really into the goat cheese and lettuce sandwich with pumpkin mostarda on it.
For our pre-dinner outing, we decided to turn right and pass the boat docks, through the back of the hospital and the emergency room
and to the end of Fondamente Nove. Then we turned into Castello. We stopped at a church showing 8 video works in small dark rooms. The collection was called Penumbra and it gave you a guide on a QR code for your phone. Only one really held my interest about very deep sea life exploration in a trench on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. The exit from the show was onto a small calle in back of Giovanni e Paolo:
We came back home to finalize some plans for next week and then walked to Larry and Amy’s apartment for a wonderful dinner–Risotto by Amy! The light on San Michele was just stunning as was the company. We planned this so well (not).
We were pretty much in heaven walking home. Lucky us!
It all sounds lovely Jan!
It’s all so dreamy!
Those portraits are stunning! Sounds like another lovely day!
Another marvelous day in your beloved part of the world.
Thank you for thinking of me, I love all those bunnies, and would love to own an original…which won’t be happening.
Your days just flow, as do your words and explanations.
Thank you for taking us along.
