Oh NO!
Allora…
After about three days in Rome, I started sneezing and had a sore throat. This is really typical for me especially in allergy season at home so I didn’t think much of it. BUT, on Monday, Ken started the same pattern. Tuesday morning he decided to do one of the COVID tests we brought with us and it was the dreaded positive. So, then I did one and mine was also positive. We don’t feel bad at all. Just cold symptoms. Of course, we have no idea where we got it but think it may have been in the Atlanta airport.
We are totally freaked out, of course.
Our landlords are our only means of support here. I texted with Sarah frequently yesterday. She will do grocery shopping for us and get us more tests. There is no instacart here.
They have someone coming into this apartment on Sunday but found us another airbnb nearby where we can move.
I canceled our rental car which we were supposed to pick up on Thursday. It was through Auto Europe and there was no charge for cancellation. Also cancelled our hotel stay in Pesaro.
In a moment of optimism, I bought train tickets for us to get from here to make our Bologna airbnb on Tuesday the 12th.
Italian rules say we have to self isolate for 7 days or until we test negative.
We did laundry and hung it out on the sunny balcony:
We sat out there for a while and finally took a short walk in the very nearby park, not getting within 50 feet of anyone else, wearing our masks and feeling like outlaws.
We ate confetti all day.
We had enough leftovers for lunch and dinner. Eventually we will find out what pizza delivery is like here.
I was able to join my Pilates class on Zoom and that was wonderful! Thank you, Sue.
This is crazy but…
We have a great place to sit it out with very understanding and friendly owners; we still have a good bit of trip time left.
This blog is going to get very boring. I will do some photos of the lovely apartment but…
Thanks for all the comments. They make me smile.
It’s going all over Europe… Hope you stay healthy and fit! Every person I know that tested positive over the past few weeks recovered in a few days without any serious deterioration in health.
thanks for that
SO Sorry this has happened to you. I know dozens of people who’ve tested positive recently, but the symptoms have all been mild and they’ve disappeared quickly. And they’re all fine.
I hope you feel better soon!
Do take care. We are so spoiled with grocery and neighbourhood cooks deliveries here in London. Hopefully, you won’t feel worse and can get on with your lives asap.
Oh boy! Everything I go to I wear a mask, more often, a double mask and feel like a dork doing it. Mostly, I avoid indoor spaces even in small groups. I’m sorry about this but you make me feel justified. Thank goodness you don’t feel so bad. Thank you for testing. Get well soon and feel better than ever, dear Jan and Ken!
Oh my gosh, after how very careful you were before you went. I am so sorry, but glad it sounds that you are doing ok. Well, this isn’t what you were planning on, but I’m sure you will make the best of it. Sending love!!
Thinking of you, Jan.
There is food delivery in larger cities and grocery store delivery as well. It really picked up during covid. Ask the landlords.
Noy just pizza, but real meals. As well. One of the services is called just eats another glovo. As well as local restaurants providing food to go. So, maybe the can help you…. Or “hire” someone to provide a service.
So sorry to hear this, but I am glad it feels like nothing more than a mild cold. A heads up, it took both Alan and I thirteen days to convert back to negative, in case you are going anywhere where you need to be tested. Current thinking is that you stop shedding the virus after five days. Rest, relax, read, and enjoy your view. Hope everything stays mild.
Oh, Jan. How disappointing for you. I’m just now reading this after posting about testing negative today. Now I feel badly about mentioning that. We’ll all hope for Bologna. Of course if one could pick a place to isolate Italy with nice landlords and view is the best.
As always you are handling the bumps in the travel road with aplomb. I’m glad you have mild cases and are not feeling too badly. I think you are amazing. Glad you have some sunshine and a patio to sit. Keep us posted. you are never boring.
Yikes! You poor things! I hope you continue to only have very mild symptoms. It’s a good thing you have had shots and boosters. Maybe time to take some intensive online Italian classes? Listen to a lot of Italian TV? Hopefully this mild bout will super charge you against ever getting it again. Meanwhile, like you said, you have a lot of trip left and you’ll probably feel more confident about going places and not getting sick. Fingers crossed and lots of love to both of you.
Oh, no! So sorry to hear this, and glad it’s mild. I trust all will be well soon and we’ll still see you in Bologna.
😱! So sorry to hear this. Take care, you two!
Oh no!! So sorry to learn you both tested positive during your wonderful Italy vacation. Hope the symptoms stay mild and hopt you both test negative soon! Take good care!
