This Is It
I hate to be redundant but we had another perfectly wonderful day!
Clear blue skies mean we can see the Dolomites in the distance:
We went to Bisiol first to get some prepared food to have later for dinner. The lovely woman in there asked us how many days we have been here now and how many more will we be and then she said “you are almost Venetian.” We came back home to stash our food and shed some clothes (hurray!) before we set out for Piazza San Marco. We went by way of the Mendicati where I saw a boat full of young trees.
The Piazza was lively but not too crowded. We found a nice place to sit and take in the basilica. It is mostly covered in front right now; we think they are still doing work to repair the damage from the November ’19 flooding. There is so much to see just on the facade, including the mosaics, we just looked up a little and were totally entertained.
Since it was nearly noon, we waited to watch the Mori ring the bell on top of the clock tower.
The Azerbaijan pavilion was right there so we went into it. Our favorite part was a “psychedelic” installation of moving white lights in patterns.
From there we walked about a half block, still right on the Piazza San Marco, to see the show of famous American sculptor, Louise Nevelson. Wow! It was a large exhibit including some of her collages:
And many of her signature, all black, found-objects, pieces:
There was a video, at the end, that was enlightening–watching her work, smoking cigarettes and wearing her thick false eyelashes. It is noteworthy to me that Ms. Nevelson was born in a small village outside of Kyiv.
We came back home for lunch and a bit of a rest. Errands took us to Strada Nova and finally we sat in the Campo Gesuiti for a little while to enjoy the weather. Just as we got up to go home, there were our slow travel friends Rebecca and Sean from California. We had a nice little visit with them.
Wednesday at 6:15–time to go to the vegetable boat with Elisa. She just delights me! We were early for the boat and got a chance to talk a lot. She magically got the restaurant in Bologna to answer their phone wo we have a reservation for Saturday lunch. The view at this little campo is so so sweet:
Finally the boat came, but there were slim pickings this week because they are between seasons. All I got was a head of cabbage.
Our dinner from Bisiol (pork shank) heated up nicely and Elisa brought us a platter of bieta/chard and potatoes that was the perfect accompaniment.
What a great day!
I can see all of us in the Dolomites before heading to Lake Garda. Can you remember the bicyclist who followed our car all the way down the mountain at breakneck speed?
So fun to run into you!
I appreciate your blogging very much. Thank you for putting in the effort for the rest of us to enjoy.
