Chock Full
Big plans! We left around 10:15, stopped for coffee near Giovanni e Paolo and walked straight on until San Zaccharia church. We hung out in there for a while, giving Zachary his due respect before we met Nan on the landing B to take the vaporetto over to San Giorgio to see one of our perennial favorite places in Venice, Le Stanze del Vetro/The Rooms of Glass. This show was not so much about art glass but about industrial glass and it had a lot of lamps and furniture from the 1930’s til the 1980’s. I enjoyed the show more than Ken did.
We walked just around the corner, all the while loving the spring weather, the boats in the marina, and the water views. The Kehinde Wiley, Biennale show there was called An Archeology of Silence; it’s beauty and power made a lasting impression. Known for doing the large portrait of Obama in 2017, his realistic work here is about the fallen hero. The works really are affecting, set in dark rooms with excellent lighting; they pack a punch for the heart and mind The art history and current political back stories were largely over my head but I still loved seeing these works and would go back for more. It’s the kind of show where you see something new every time you view it.
We needed a respite from the power of art, so we walked some on Giudeca and stopped for an entertaining lunch at Palanca. The food was nothing special, but the wait staff was funny and the view was “to die for”.
We took the vap home, getting off with Nan at Orto and walking to our apartment on Fundamente Nove. Our rest was brief because our dear friend Donna was arriving around 6. We went down to meet the boat with Elisa and then let them get settled. We have so much to talk about! We went to a fine dinner at Alla Frasca nearby–we shared an large appetizer of burrata, prosciutto and tomatoes and then each got our own pasta dish. I thought my tagliatelle with seafood was the best.
We walked home and Donna suggested trying a night shot on the canal and I kinda like it:
We capped off the night with tiramisu, which Elisa had made for Donna.
I’m looking forward to a wonderful last week in Venice!
Loved the evening shot… BTW “Ken Under Horse” is spectacular w the KW woman looking over at both…
