Closing the Book
Last day!
First thing to take care of was getting our Covid tests done. We had discovered a lab nearby and had an appointment for 10:30. It all went smoothly and we decided to wait for the printed (in English and Spanish) results. All clear. Here’s the lab, in case anyone needs one in Barcelona in the future:
We strolled from there to the Libertad Market to ask what type of vermouth the proprietor of the stall we went to on our food tour pours. Ken thought he could cram a bottle into his suitcase. I enjoyed strolling around the neighborhood. Bought a little swim diaper for Sulli and some cream for my sister.
Here are some street shots from the day:
We stopped at a little place where we had eaten our first day in Barcelona and got a piece of ham and potato tortilla and a salad to take home.
We had to get our stuff organized and fitting into the suitcases. Done!
All afternoon I knew we should go out and do something, but we just didn’t have the energy. We just read and watched a new show called “We Own this City” by the co-writer/director of “The Wire” (which Ken continues to opine is the best show ever produced on television), and looks like it’s going to be another great series.
Dinner, recommended by slow traveler, Jan M, was at Sant Gulla. Here’s Ken looking at the menu in front:
The restaurant is friendly and hip without feeling too trendy. We shared everything: patatas bravas, roasted leeks with a delicious almond sauce, rice with local shrimp and the best dish of the night was boneless, roast pork with celery root–pureed and in roasted chunks. We took our time and enjoyed the meal and the scene. Too full for dessert, we strolled home, ready to get our prearranged cab for the airport at the ungodly hour of 3:30 am!
I plan to do a few more posts eventually with some random photos that never quite fit in here but for now…arrivederci.
Have a safe trip home! Thanks for blogging. What a great trip!
