Into Dorsodoru
Off we go through San Marco through campo Manin and to Campo San Luca where I had to stop to look into one of my favorites, the Missoni window:
And onto Campo San Angelo and finally stopping for a quick coffee at Le Cafè in Santo Stefano. I saw a big banner for an exhibit I had read about: The Abduction from the Seraglio/Roma Women:Performative Strategies of Resistance. This was fascinating, moving and educational. I had never really gotten how oppressed the Roma people were and now my eyes are open. The exhibit was two fold. The work of Eugen Raportoru, painter from Bucharest, had his large abstracts placed in rooms set up like living spaces with furniture, rugs, nicknacks and toys. The women’s part included a video of Roma women demanding, through rituals, the end of violence against them, specifically, and against all women, in general. It was powerful stuff. At one point she is striking a fancy, black studded, strappy high heel sandal on the rug and asking for revenge.
And in one corner of the room was this tarot-like, crystal ball set up:
We stayed there a while, mesmerized by the video and the setting.
Then, over the Accademia bridge and a few deep breaths, to appreciate just how lucky/privileged we are, and for the view at the top. At the bottom of the bridge we went straight on to the right and back, towards the Zattere. I loved this door:
Two collateral exhibits were right there and we enjoyed them both: Claire Tabouret’s paintings in a beautiful building and Rony Plesl’s glass work in “Trees grow from the Sky” in a deconsecrated church:
We also went into the Santa Maria del Rosario church. I love the hair on this baby:
We kept on moving down the Zattere and then turned right into Dorsoduro and wandered the beautiful back canals for a while. I was, of course, starving so we stopped for a quick light lunch and kept on, walking by the apartment we once rented for a month before crossing the Scalzi bridge and heading home.
Rest was in order; it was, afterall, Sunday. I went out later to the flower shop, but it had closed at 3:00.
I have one or two more lily shots, fading like us:
