Lazy Day
We had some errands for the morning. After a quick coffee at Puppa, we got fruit and vegetables on the corner, got a new piece of cheese, popped into the Coop supermarket, went to the wine shop and got new lilies. The new flowers are a little different, but they still make our place smell great.
When we came home Ken took a long nap while I did research for our week to come, in Barcelona. I ate a little lunch (the young pecorino is delicious) and Ken woke up. As soon as he came out of the bedroom, I got super sleepy and we simply switched places. I took a long nap and he ate lunch. We both just ran out of steam today.
We took a nice, easy walk about in the later afternoon. The promise of gelato is what finally got us out of the house. We went to Ca D’oro Gelato and took it into campo SS Apostoli to sit on a bench. I struck up a conversation with our bench-mate. The young woman, Francesca, is from Treviso but she went to medical school for three years in Barcelona. She sent me some recs on WhatApp. She practiced her English and me Italian—very enjoyable.
Here are some snapshots from the rest of our walk:
We came back home, walking along the fondamenta, appreciating the beautiful view and each other.
For dinner I made the little tortellini from Bologna, with some caramelized onions and pancetta. And we had some vegetables too. The new red wine, a Marzemino from Trentino, was OK.
I did some more work on the Barcelona week and we retired to the bedroom. We finished watching Slow Horses and the night before we finished Anatomy of a Scandal.
Tomorrow is another day!
Which area will you be staying in in Barcelona?
Gracia. Do you have advice?
No, not really I guess, I mean it’s difficult to know what you are looking for? I like local, not that fancy places that are popular with both locals and some tourists alike. Gracia is nice, just as the area opposite of Diagonal (eixample). That’s where lots of good restaurants are.
Loved the reflections in the Venetian water as much as Slow Horses…
