Novello
We slept really late after staying out so long at the restaurant plus we changed to Day Light Savings time and sprang forward another hour. Anyway, we were lazy and just relaxed the whole morning.
Finally we went out for a lovely walk all around Novello. This is one of the eleven villages that make up the Barolo area and the views of the vineyards are in keeping with the prestige. In the center of town is this giant wine press from 1750:
We ended up at the restaurant La Nascetta, named for the local grape. So funny, so small town–As soon as we walked in to ask for a table, there was Tiziano. On his day off from ANT he went there to help out at his friend who was short staffed. We had a very nice lunch of Piemontese appetizers and we shared a Tajarin pasta. I loved being in the restaurant, full for Sunday lunch with all the Italians. Great people watching!
We walked back from there. Here’s the view towards our parking lot at the entrance to the Novello castle and the castle itself:
We came back home and got ready to go to visit our friends Diana and Micha (and their loveable old dog Rocky) who we first met in 2006 at their wonderful Baur B&B. Now they live, part time, just a few minutes (well, if you don’t get lost) drive from Novello and have a successful online wine business called Barbarolo and Diana makes amazing ceramics. What a wonderful visit we had! We laughed a lot and drank fabulous wine and ate fabulous food prepared by Diana. We made it back even though, somehow we had never turned the car off. We made them wait outside to see if we actually could drive.
Another really nice day! A visit with old friends can make an ordinary day into a very special one.
