In Town
The sun was shining! What a difference beautiful weather makes! All over town there were people, walking, sitting in the sun or sitting outside at a bar, having coffee.
We strolled for a while, got some coffee and a brioche con crema (Ken’s favorite) to share. We looked at the Piazza Libertà where the clock tower is a model of the one in Venice. Built in the early 1500’s it is smaller than the Venetian one but still beautiful:
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Casa Cavazzini, was our destination. When we got there, around 10:45, we were told we had to reserve and I had to call from my phone for the reservation which I did. We were to return at 11:40. So, we walked over to the market and got some white asparagus and some beautiful strawberries, brought them back upstairs and it was time to go back. None of these little distances are more than 7 minutes–if you don’t get lost.
The Museum had a show called “Insieme” which means together and, with the help of the audio guide, you could really see the theme expressed in the curation. The very first work you see is this Dali of a woman in the mirror:
For me, the audio guide was very interesting but way too long. It explained every painting in the show and I wish I had known which were the highlights. I have to admit to fast forwarding through some of the talk. This shot is for Kathryn and Teresa:
We also walked through the permanent collection which was more contemporary and had many really interesting sculptures. On the top floor is the “apartment” where the original owners lived with frescoed walls. Here’s a shot of the juxtaposition:
For lunch we enjoyed the leftover prosciutto and goat cheeses.
After rest time we went out and got gelato, at Oggi. There was a little line waiting with mostly young families–lots of cuteness. I got caramel and Ken had dark chocolate a pistacchio. It was all really good! So we sat in the sun at Piazza Matteotti eating our gelato. There was some kind of youth group there fundraising and I bought a little hand made key chain for 3 euro.
We walked over to make a reservation where we want to eat on Monday and passed this flower shop:
There is Easter decor everywhere making window shopping fun.
I wanted to get a bottle of the sparkling Ribolla Gialla so we went to a very pretty wine shop and got one. For dinner we had beans and white asparagus from the market and the last of the soup I had made earlier. I was glad we didn’t go out. Sometimes it’s just too much for me. But there are so many restaurant I won’t get to try :(.
