Lots of Steps
A gorgeous day! Clear and cool, sunny and bright–a tourist’s dream weather.
I had a date with Elisa to go for a coffee and for her to show me the “green grocer” (fruit and vegetable shop) and the bakery she likes best.
To my surprise we walked to the west through Cannaregio. We stopped at Torrefazione for coffee. While I held one of the three outside tables, lovely elisa got our coffee and also brought me a piece of wonderful almond cake:
Here is my typical, peaceful Cannaregio view while I was waiting for her:
We sat there for a long time and talked and then went to the bakery. Elisa walks faster than anyone I know and so, keeping up with her and the conversation meant that I have no idea where the bakery is! But we got some fabulous bread. She insisted that I get a bread called Mantovana and it was really good! We came back here and I had only a short rest before Ken and I went out to Bisiol to get some prosciutto for the bread.
I saw this brand new wreath placed, likely for the Liberation Day commemoration, above this plaque:
We came back home and enjoyed our lunch including potato salad from Bisiol, which they call Insalata Russa (Russian Salad).
For our afternoon outing we walked to Building Bridges by Lorenzo Quinn. Passing through the pretty Campo San Francesco della Vigna:
We had seen these magnificent hands in 2019 with Linda and Steve but they still are pretty wonderful. And we still had trouble finding them!
It was interesting that there was a man on a crane pressure washing the hands:
We had a nice walk back home and my Apple watch exploded with celebration that I had a personal best day of “exercise.”
Ai Promessi Sposi is a restaurant we go to every trip. We met Nan there for a great dinner. I wish I had a photo of my antipasto di pesce! It included lots of differently cooked sardines as well as baccala mantecato and some other sea treats from the cicchetti bar. Then I had the “artichoke flan” which was delicious. Ken enjoyed his fritto misto. We somehow drank 2 bottles of wine and were offered after dinner drinks at the bar. It was great fun and we had a nice moment to say goodbye to Nan who is off to England to row.
Lots of steps, lots of smiles, lots of wine. A great day!
2 bottles of wine. I missed a darn good dinner, it seems. <3
Love this! But no pictures of the food you ate at Ai Promessi Sposi??
How do you know all these people that live there?
Building Bridges is Magnificent! What a fantastic trip we had with you & Ken. And It was hard finding our way in to see it! The clear sunny skies you describe remind me of the last vaporetto Steve & I took on our own with the sun setting & the mountains suddenly clear in the background coming back to Elisa’s. So happy you guys got to see it again & thought of us.
Thank you. I enjoy starting my mornings reading about your adventures. I love your blog. Happy travels to you.
Love following your adventures! Cheers!
I love reading your entries every day. I smile, smile, smile. Josie
The hands were quite impressive….
The world needs those hands.
