Punta della Dogana
We had to be out of the apartment theoretically at 10:00 for the cleaning person but Elisa came down around 9:30 and an hour later we were still talking with her. We are trying to work out a visit for our family for next year and we got it done.
Wanting a good walk, we took off, through San Marco–San Luca, Manin, Sant’Angelo, Santo Stefano and onto the Accademia Bridge. The views… (sigh) calming and delicious. I took this one “backwards” shot from the top:
Interesting–they have removed all of the locks and replaced the railing with thicker piping so a lock won’t fit:
There’s definitely a different feel to Dorsoduro–artsier if nothing else. We stopped for coffee at Da Gino and kept on towards “Peggy’s Place” and Salute, looking in a few galleries along the way. Color is starting to emerge on the canals:
The Punta della Dogana may be my favorite museum of all. The first room had a huge work of light and fibre by Brazilian artist Lygia Page. It changes with every step you take:
Then there was this room with soulful, haptic sound when you sit on each bench:
From the sublime to the ridiculous:
We left there hungry for food but full of art so we walked back to Da Gino for tramezzini (tuna and olive, my favorite) and a spritz and then retraced our steps back home.
Elisa came down again in the afternoon with a proposal for our stay in June which we found very reasonable and accepted it immediately. She also brought us a bunch of food. A long text thread with our kids ensued which mostly had us giggling. Kathryn is so funny!
Leftovers for dinner and a decent Valpolicella Ripasso we had gotten at the supermarket.
We are both thrilled at the prospect of having our kids here next year!

How wonderful that you’re planning a family vacation for next June! The kiddos will have so much fun with you and Ken!
If you happen to stop by Gelateria Nico for a “gianduiotto” ask for Maurizio Mutti. Please say ciao from Mindy in Quincy. I’ve not seen him since my last visit in 2018 and still dream about the delicious gelato! Grazie. He is a very kind human!
Am I included in this family trip?
Traveling with the family is always so rewarding.
I am family, correct? Josie
