Belluno
We got out fairly early for our first walk of the day. The apartment owner told us we needed to go back to the parking lot to pay, but when we got there (down the 4 escalators) they said no–just wait until you leave. The walk there gave us a moment to admire the Belluno “City Hall”
We headed back towards the center, stopping for coffee near our apartment and took a moment to admire this beautiful gate at a private palazzo:
A lot of the buildings are this yellow color.
Next stop– a few groceries. We went to a supermarket right on the main square, Piazza Martiri, and walked back home. In front of the theater were 2 large lions, so we know we are in the Veneto:
Rain was predicted, so we headed out fairly soon to investigate restaurants. Both of the ones we were interested in were closed. So we went to a shop nearby with some prepared foods. And went to a bread bakery.
We had some rest time. There is a new hurricane, Helene headed for Tallahassee. There’s absolutely nothing we can do about it but worry, and I’m trying not to do much of that. Ken generally takes care of that for both of us.
In the afternoon, we walked in a different direction to a wine shop. It was fun because we asked about “bollicine” or bubbly wine. The woman there gave us tastes of 3 different ones. First Prosecco, then a Franciacorta, and the third was called Fior di Lot from a small organic winery in Friuli. We opted for the third (10 Euros less than the Franciacorta). Heading home we passed through these huge doors:
We rested a bit and headed out for one last walk but it started to rain so we came back.
The dinner turned out really great. We had some sliced porchetta, an artichoke lasagna, rich with bechamel and tiny taste of nutmeg, and some vegetable. With the nice dry sparkling wine we had a wonderful dinner in our apartment while it rained hard outside.
Needless to say, we didn’t go out after dinner. Early to bed…
We are watching The Perfect Couple on Netflix. It’s fun.
Because of your posts, yesterday at Total Wine I asked if they carriedFranciacorta. There were three different types, I should’ve taken a photo, anyway I didn’t buy a bottle because the average price was $36. I’ll just have to wait a few more weeks until I’m in the Veneto. Love the picture of you and the big gate.
I just found this in my spam box! No to catch up on your trip. Enjoy every minute.
Much more relaxing than the day before. Dinner while watching f the rain sounds cozy
