Iseo
Iseo
We woke up at a pretty normal time and felt fully adjusted to the time change. The goal for the day was to explore this lovely town, Iseo, on the eastern shore of Lake Iseo. It may sound familiar because this is where the artist Christo and his wife, Jeanne-Claude made their huge project called “Floating Piers” in 2016.
We made a quick stop for coffee—aaah—Italian coffee is so good.
We strolled around the postcard-ready lake. I talked to some fishermen, fishing for perch which they will fry up to eat. There are many benches to sit and absorb the natural beauty.
Apparently public art is important to the area. Currently there are large sculptures by Stefano Bombardieri on display. They seem to all be titled Game<>Care. Here are a few we saw nearby :
I stopped and got some fruit and local olive oil in town and we went for a simple lunch. The name of the restaurant is Questione di Gusto/ A question of taste. I got a little platter of cheeses and meats with a basket of fabulous yellow tinged focaccia. Ken got a panino and we each had a small glass of Franciacorta.
After lunch we walked to a small bread bakery, literally on the other side of the tracks. So, we had to walk on a pedestrian bridge over the train tracks. The best thing we got was called “Torta Rosa” a sweet bread in the form of a rose with a little bit of custard inside.
Interesting, I have already seen two tattoo studios in town. This one seemed to replace the local butcher:
We came back for a nice afternoon rest and I made some soup.
Before dinner we walked down to the marina to watch the sunset.
Came back, ate the, just OK soup and the just OK bread. Signed up for a VPN for streaming on my computer. A pretty great day!
Always a lively and lovely description as I feel I am walking just beside you to share your day. Thank you.
Love the art, and your storytelling. It feels like I’m there with you.
