Relief
We woke up super early to check on the hurricane. What relief! In the final hours Helene jogged to the east and Tallahassee was spared major damage. According to our neighbors, we have one small tree down in our driveway and, of course, there is no power for our entire area. We are grateful, but sad for the way less fortunate other areas of the South which have been devastated.
The morning was all about errands. If you’ve read this blog for years, you know that doing the quotidian chores and interacting with shop keepers is one of my favorite things to do here.
Bar Cupido is right on Fondamente Nove, over the big bridge. At the end of last year’s visit, I decided I wanted to switch from our long-standing bar, and start going there for our morning coffee. And then we read the latest Daniel Silva book and Bar Cupido was mentioned a few times, noting a handsome barrista there. So, Bar Cupido was our first stop. The coffee is very good, but the bar man was not particularly attractive.
Flaneuring (is that really a verb?) was the word of the day. We wandered the back streets behind the bar until we came to a bakery and bought some bread. Then we headed for another favorite spot, Bisiol. The placed was packed. I love watching the butcher work with his sharp knives. It, too, is one our favorite stops.
The flower shop was next and I was able to get some really beautiful double lilies.
Arms full, we headed home.
After rest time, we headed out for another flaneuring session. Got this random Venice shot:
Vetiver is a favorite scent of mine, and I saw some soap in a shop window and got that. We found ourselves in front of the Thai exhibit for the Biennale. It’s called Spirits of the Maritime Crossing, and is in a rarely open palazzo on Strada Nova. It was interesting, kind of,.
We were both feeling a lack of energy in our recovery from the tension and dread of the last few days, so we just came home, watched the sunset light on our wonderful view had a simple dinner and got into bed with our various devices.
So glad your home is safe.
Those lilium doppio are beautiful! Glad to hear you dodged the bullet from Helene.
