Visit to Bergamo
A word about the weather so far. Gorgeous! The mornings are chilly (for me) but the afternoons have been sunny, reaching 70°.
We went for a walk around Iseo to buy provisions for dinner. At the pasta shop we got some fresh anolini, half moon shaped ravioli stuffed with meat. The funghi trifolati caught my eye so we got a bit of that to try. At the fruit place it turns out they have lots of different simply cooked vegetables so we got some spinach and beets. Afterwards, we went to Sucré, our now favorite coffee bar.
Bergamo, about 40 minutes away by car, was next on our agenda. Our dear friend, Massimo, gave us a specific parking garage to use that is close to his house. We went a little early so I could make a quick visit to the COIN (like Macy’s) department store and buy an apron. Massimo and his absolutely adorable 10 month old baby, Cecilia, met us at COIN and we walked together back to their apartment to meet his new life partner, Elena.
We talked and talked all the while Cecilia was playing peacefully on the floor. After a snack we walked to meet Massimo’s parents and have a nice long passeggiata around the Bergamo downtown, full of porticos and fountains. It was surprising how many people were out and about. Massimo’s mom says it’s like this every Saturday. I loved speaking Italian with Massimo’s mom and Ken was speaking politics with Elena and his dad.
We took some group photos in front of the church and walked back to the parking garage.
By the time we got back to Iseo it was time to cook dinner. We took a break to do a little FaceTiming with Josh and Mavis and after dinner we did with Kathryn and Sulli. Feels like we haven’t seen them in forever!
Dinner was really great, especially the mushrooms which we mixed with the ravioli.
What a wonderful visit!
Congratulations to Massimo and Elena! Lovely baby. I always wanted to see Bergamo. I remember Massimo talking about it in class.
Grazie a voi per il bel pomeriggio! È sempre bello rivedervi. Un grande abbraccio e cari saluti a tutti gli amici di Tallahassee!
This is one of those perfect days
