Fall Back
Daylight savings time ending here gave us an extra hour in Prague. The skies were solidly grey, so we used the morning to relax and hope for some sun. I had in mind to buy myself a nice wool scarf here, so we set out towards a shopping area. I saw someone photographing this side street so I took a snapshot, but I don’t know its significance. Maybe it’s just pretty:
We have passed this wall memorializing the Velvet Revolution many times, and I finally got a photo of it:
No luck on the scarf, but we did go into a lot of shops. The inside of Palladium mall looks a lot like our malls in the states, but smaller. They have many familiar stores—even Gap, Footlocker and NorthFace in addition to some designer and other European brands.
We walked over to the butcher shop from the food tour but it is closed on Sunday. We saw a Billa supermarket and went into it to get some supplies for the apartment and headed back towards home. Both of us were getting cranky and hungry so we stopped at the Pho Bar and had a great cheap lunch. I had curry tofu and vegetables. Such a nice change from the heavy Czech food we’ve been eating.
The afternoon stayed grey. Finally we saw the sun come out so we walked down to The Dancing House, a landmark not too far from us. The architects Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry designed this for a piece of land on the river embankment which had been bombed by the Americans in 1946. It was built in 1996. It is quite charming and you can plainly see why they’ve nicknamed it Fred and Ginger.
We extended our walk over the bridge and through a park on the other side of the river. I got this “golden hour” shot from there:
This Florida girl is really enjoying the fall colors here:
We watched some TV and got to see the crazy endings of a few NFL games thanks to Directv. Poor Dolphins! We tuned in just in time to see them lose in the final seconds.
