I Love Being Here
With no big plans for the day, we got out a bit late, stopped for coffee and wandered the back streets a bit. Coming out onto Campo Santi Apostoli, everything seemed so alive:
At Bisiol, I got some pancetta. The amazing butcher cut two generous slices of the bacon and quickly cut them into cubetti/little cubes for me. He is so skilled! We also stocked up on lunch stuff for the apartment.
We had to bring our stuff home to refrigerate, so we took a short break. But we still needed the pasta and onions for my dinner plan. So, we went to the big Despar supermarket on Strada Nova mainly to get some extra steps. The “main drag” streets are still very congested but it is becoming more manageable.
Tramezzini are half sandwiches on crustless white bread and we’ve both been jonesing for them. So, we headed back to Bar Cupido and got them for lunch, ham and mushrooms with a spritz for Ken and tuna and tomatoes with a glass of Prosecco for me. Right behind the bar is the Croatian exhibit for the Biennale. It was super interesting. The artist, Vlotka Horvat, invited other expat artists from all over the world to exchange works with her; they are all about 8×11 and laid out in rows. This wall of photos shows how the works got to Venice:
I liked this particular piece—so clever, it says work:
We walked over to Campo Santa Maria Nova and had a great extended bench sit. The people watching was beyond compare. I would have loved to have taken a bunch of photos.
Came back home and did some prep for the dinner. It came out fine, but I am not a fan of this paccheri pasta. It’s just too much for one bite.
Our double lilies continue to add beauty to our already lovely space.
Elisa came by and brought us a bowl of spinach—so good. And we talked and joked for a while with her. She is such a bright light!
The last thing I said to Ken before we went to sleep was, “I just love being here.”
To be in be place for a long time, unhurried, no need for plans., Free to wander is really such a gift. You are doing that in a place you love and know well. This is slow travel at its best. I’m following your steps with such joy. Thank you.
Dinner looks delish!
