Il Sole
The sun is out!
What a perfectly beautiful fall day!
First order of business was a stop at Bisiol for provisions. That taken care of, we set out for the Ospedaletto, a deconsecrated church with Biennale works. The show was called Nebula. Eight different different video works from people all over the world, for which I had no patience. The exit was onto an old courtyard where I took this:
Wanting to spend some time outside, we kept on walking towards the Giardini della Marinaressa, the public gardens on the Riva of Seven Martys, which display large sculpture works from the Biennale. Nothing really thrilled me—I liked this alien (not really an alien) with sky eyes:
The highlight of the day was the show by South African artist, William Kentridge called “Self Portrait as a Coffee Pot.” The show includes nine half-hour, video episodes, but we only watched one. It was fascinating! There were so many elements, acting and dance but mostly his idiosyncratic forms of black and white animation. And the meaning.
I like this shot I got of the screen with the hand of the woman sitting in front of me:
This shelf had many of the 3-D objects he used in the films:
We grabbed a quick coffee on via Garibaldi and headed home.
I grabbed these snapshots on the way.
Lunch and rest time were next.
We had a nice walk on a not too crowded Strada Nova, and did a bit of window shopping.
We’ve been seeing this small white egret every evening:
Elisa came down for a visit. She is such a wonderful person. We just love her!
The big tortelloni we got at Bisiol—we got half spinach and ricotta and half zucca with speck, worked out well for dinner.
We have finished Slow Horses and Bad Monkey. What’s next?
Your “snapshots” truly show you have an Artist’s Eye!
I’m really enjoying reading about your adventures!
