Lots of Rain
Ken tells me that this persistent rain is the result of Hurricane Isaac pushing rain into Europe. Hurricane season finally caught up with us. Unwilling to just sit in the apartment all day the three of us bundled up and walked over to the glasses shop for Donna to get some new frames.
While she and Ken stayed there, I scooted down the block to pick up my knife and Ken’s scissors. I also managed to pop into the bakery on the corner and get some bread for lunch.
We spent quite a while in the glasses shop and Donna scored two different frames. By the time we headed back it was changing from a rainy day to a stormy day; we were all soaked by the time we got home and both of our umbrellas were totally destroyed. And we were getting more company. Vicki, an old friend of all of ours, was arriving in the early afternoon. Ken went down to meet her boat and generously carry her suitcase upstairs.
We sat around our table and ate lunch together and then moved next door to finish off the tiramisu. And talk and talk.
There was no sense in going out. It was pouring and very windy. But Vicki and I decided to brave it, just to go the 2 blocks to the Coop Supermarket and get a few things to cook dinner. Elisa kindly canceled our dinner reservations for us and brought me the rain boots I had left here in 2019.
The wind was so strong coming home. The stretch from in front of the Gesuiti church to our door on Fondamenta Nove was really difficult to walk, especially with our grocery bags. And Vicki had two bottles of wine in her pockets. Another umbrella bit the dust and we were really laughing. Some how our bag of lettuce blew away. We made it home. Warriors!
We changed into some dry clothes and I cooked a simple tomato sauce to eat with the store bought fresh tortellini. Vicki made a nice salad, even though the lettuce was gone.
The conversations and memories went on and on. It is really fun having them here. Rain is predicted for the whole day tomorrow, too. We’ll figure something out to do.
Crazy weather. But, the thought of a random head of lettuce blowing down the fondamente made me laugh.
