Low Key Day
We took our time in the morning. Our date with our old friend Jill was not until 11:00. We walked the 15 minutes to Campo Santa Maria Formosa, found a café, and had a wonderful, long visit. Nothing much has changed with her—she is still happily married and working too hard.
Many moments today I really tried to appreciate the beauty of Venice. Walking into Giovanni e Paolo was stunning and this tower at Santa Maria Formosa was another:
From there, with Jill’s guidance, we went to Vizio Virtù where I was so disappointed they no longer have the gelatine candy I love.
We went back through Giovanni e Paolo and stopped at the bakery there on Calle della Testa. We got some nice bread, some sweet stuff and their packaged gelatine. I have a good memory for candy.
Fresh bread and some left over turkey, ham and porchetta made lunch. Oh yes, there were cookies from the bakery too.
Feeling a little burnt out on art, we decided to just have a “down day” travel wise and rest.
In the late afternoon, we walked to the big Despar supermarket on Strada Nova, just to get some steps and a few things to make a big salad for dinner.
I got this random Venice wall shot:
Trying to lighten up on eating for one day was a good idea, but our plan was foiled when Elisa showed up with two pieces of still warm apple strudel. Which we devoured.
We took it easy the rest of the evening, watched some TV, Facetimed with Kathryn and Sulli and went to bed pretty early. Like I said, the day was low key, like this blog.
I love the idea of a low key day and that is the luxury of slowtravel. You can listen to the rhythm of your soul. Sounds like a lovely visit and a very sweet day.
Those are often my favorite days
