From Fog to Glory
Our morning view was totally white with the dense fog.
We waited for some of it to burn off before we set out for coffee at bar Cupido and a nice long wander. March 8 is International Women’s Day and the town was full of yellow mimosas as a symbol. Young men were lined up in our local shop buying premade packs of flowers. And many wonem around Venice were carrying the bright bundles. Here’s a bunch of shots:
By the time we got to Giovanni e Paolo the sun was out and it was a perfect day for walking. The campos are decidedly quieter than later in the season. We wandered through Castello and into Campo Santa Maria Formosa where there is an installation of four, huge bronze lions (2 male and 2 female) by Davide Rivalta. Here’s one:

We had a nice sit there on some new marble benches, watching the seagulls, the lions and the people.
There are so many new restaurants! How can they all survive? Well, they actually don’t.
Working up an appetite, I started to get a little cranky and all of a sudden we were in front of Bar Tiziano, one of our favorite spots. The food is like diner food and the scene is friendly. I got some plain baked chicken and vegetables and Ken got gnocchi with ragu. And of course, we each had a spritz– Select for me and Aperol for Ken. Full and happy we walked back home for a nice rest time.
For the afternoon we walked in the opposite direction, into Cannaregio. I guess because it was Sunday and such lovely weather some places, like Vino Vero, were really crowded. We walked to the Madonna dell’Orto church, so pretty in the evening light. I saw this broom in a doorway:
We had Elisa’s hearty vegetable soup for dinner and had a nice phone call from Kathryn and Sulli.
TV in bed, just like home, ended our perfect day.
