I’m Proud
One of my goals for this trip was to take at least one Pilates class here in Venice, and I signed up for one online.
We had a normal lazy start and headed over the Rialto Bridge to find a gallery which we had seen on a poster. Caffè del Doge used to be a favorite in San Polo and while the coffee was fine the vibe was not the same. We wandered the back streets towards the gallery and got two nice shots:
The gallery, just across from the San Silvestro vaporetto stop, was Orler and the show was called Luce e Spazio/Light and Space. None of the paintings really thrilled us at all so we went on. I stopped into the Mauro bakery for some fresh bread and we saw these guys working on the lights on the Ruga:
Back over the bridge for a quick stop at Bisiol–they had in the back the little frittata things I like and we got peas for Ken. Then popped into the little meat and cheese place right near us. I got a small piece of pecorino tartufo which is really nice. Anyway, we came home, put it all on the table and there was lunch.
I had wanted to leave super early to walk to the Pilates studio because I wasn’t exactly sure where it was located, but we met Elisa in the hallway and had a nice chat. And it wasn’t very hard to find the studio, right across from Palazzo Grassi in Campo San Samuele. Ken decided to go back to Santo Stefano to wait for me. I was a bit uneasy going to a new place and speaking Italian but I got into my clothes and we started the three person reformer class. Everyone was very nice, of course, but the lesson itself was just OK. (I am so spoiled in Tallahassee to have a truly excellent teacher, Sue Carpenter.) Between the exercises and concentrating on the language I got quite a workout. Ken and I met up, my legs feeling a little shaky, and walked quickly back home.
After a little while we went back out to get our wine bottle refilled. Vin sfuso is fun and cheap (€2.60) but the wine is nothing great. They generally sell it in 1 litre plastic bottles but with my aversion to plastic we waited until we had a glass bottle to refill
Just feeling like being out, we stopped at Sbarlefo. Ken had a spritz and I had a glass of Franciacorta and we at some little greasy fried things including “boragine,” a fried borge leaf–three on a little skewer.
We came home and snacked some more.
We are just about finished with the Lincoln Lawyer and we are both reading Buckeye which is pretty good.
Feeling pretty proud of myself for doing the class!
