Lazy Day
I really wanted to take it easy so we got a late start. Finally, again, the call of coffee was strong. (I need to say: there is a moka pot in the apartment and, in fact, Ken makes his coffee there every morning, but I love getting a proper macchiato in a bar and so that’s what I do)
We needed soap and hand cream so we went to L’Erborlario on Strada Nova. I am a bit of a soap fanatic and I love their vetiver soap!
Strada Nova was pretty crowded, so we cut left towards the Grand Canal and did a bit of flaneuring. Though not top 10 gorgeous by any means, these little calles/streets really exude the flavor of Venetian life.
Here are a few more snaps from our walk:
This building on Strada Nova is pretty new. Ken says it reminds him of Walton County and he likes it:
On our way home we wandered in our neighborhood and found ourselves in front of Osteria Alla Frasca. We have eaten there before and it is a favorite of some foodie forums online. There was a perfect table for us in a sunny spot outside so we had a nice lunch. I loved mine. I ordered a mixed antipasto plate so I got a bunch of tastes of fishy things that Ken would not enjoy. The most delicious taste was the shrimp (so sweet) and the most interesting was the “latte di seppia” which I discovered is the “gonads of the cuttlefish”. That was the only thing that was warm, sauteed in a bit of olive oil and a tiny bit of garlic. So good! Ken had pasta with duck ragu which he said was nothing special.
Heading home I could not resist popping into the Combo where they were having a flea market in the courtyard. I bought an Italian scarf. It’s 50% wool and 50% silk so it’s nice and warm and I love the colors. If it is used I cannot tell at all. Here it is:
At home I had some “work” to do on my computer, checking future reservations, train tickets and booking a trip to DC in June. Wow, air fares are through the roof! Meanwhile I indulged in a huge piece of pie and consequently skipped dinner altogether.
Days like this make me so grateful for the Slow Travel philosophy and the way we actually do it.
We watched some TV and read and put our heads on our pillows.
The lilies are done:

Great descriptions and photos. Love your new scarf! The colors are soft and pretty. It will always remind you of these days in Venice. I love how familiar the little streets are to you.
We love the slow travel, too. I love your scarf. I will hate to see you go home!
Love to hear of your adventures! I always try to eat at least one thing outside my comfort zone each visit – I’m not sure I would have tried your latte di sepia! Ken’s dish sounds more my speed!! LOVE the scarf and it looks lovely on you! There is something to be said for bellying up to an Italian bar for a macchiato. What is the going rate in Venice! 1,50€? Can you imagine that in the US? PS I didn’t need the photo to know, but it looks as if your Venice agrees with you. Un bacon!
Love the scarf colors, Jan. They will sing Venice to you whenever you wear it!
beautiful scarf, beautiful you!
The scarf is beautiful. I always end up buying at least one scarf when I’m in Italy.
You are always so pretty
